New numbers from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) detailed the state’s unemployment rate in June continued to decline, remaining below the national average.
Furthermore, the state’s labor force grew by 40,000, which is roughly .4 percent. Again, the state outperformed the national average, which witnessed a decrease.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis blamed policies from the Biden administration for the national trend.
“Despite Biden administration policies that have produced record inflation, skyrocketing gas prices, and slowing national GDP, Florida continues to outpace the nation with strong job growth and an increasing labor force,” said Governor DeSantis. “Florida’s unemployment rate has remained lower than the nation for 19 consecutive months and is now close to a full percentage point lower than the nation as a whole. June’s data demonstrates once again that our freedom first approach is working for Floridians.”
Overall, the state’s unemployment rate has remained steady or declined for 23 consecutive months, according to the governor’s office.
During the coronavirus pandemic, businesses flocked to the Sunshine State, often leaving states with strict regulations and high taxes. Furthermore, Miami is quickly growing its tech footprint. In 2021, the state beat out every other state in the number of tech companies that relocated.
“Thanks to Governor DeSantis’ decisive leadership and unwavering commitment to our state’s success, Florida is home to a skilled, competitive workforce and a steady economy despite national economic conditions,” added DEO Secretary Dane Eagle. “DEO will continue to ensure that Floridians have access to meaningful opportunities to support their families, grow their businesses, and contribute to their communities.”
In addition to national economic concerns, inflation continues to cripple the country. June’s inflation rate of 9.1 percent outpaced expectations—reaching the highest levels in more than 40 years.
